High-Quality and Efficiency Cucurbitaceae Crops Industry Research Team

The research team focuses on the Cucurbitaceae crops with the Lingnan characteristics, and carries out studies, mainly including the germplasm resources collection and evaluation, innovation, breeding of new varieties, corresponding cultivation methods, and associated biotechnologies, etc. Up to date, our research on the formation of the flavor & quality and functional & hygienical components of the cucurbits in Lingnan, together with the discovery of the underlying regulatory mechanisms have been at the international leading level. In addition, Yellow Leaf Syndrome, a major problem restricting the production of cucurbits in South China has been cracked and solved. A great number of new varieties of cucurbits with prominent advantages, improved nutrition and quality have been cultivated, and widely promoted in South China and the surrounding subtropical countries.
